NAGASAKI

Feel vestiges of Western culture; savor the extraordinary atmosphere of an isolated island with a very unique character

Nagasaki Prefecture has been deeply imbued with an aura of Western culture due to its long history of being an international trading port since the Edo Period. Today Nagasaki City still has many buildings evoking its colorful history such as the rows of foreign-style houses of the Victorian era, "Glover Garden," and the oldest wooden structure today - the Oura Church built in a Gothic style. Another unique feature of Nagasaki Prefecture are the many islands, each with its own unique character. "Gunkanjima", the "battleship island", is the first of these, while others such as the "Goto Islands", "Iki", and "Tsushima" afford superb views and historical buildings to enjoy.
