ABOUT KYUSHU

Kyushu is comprised of the seven prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima as well as the other islands surrounding the island of Kyushu which is located in the southwestern part of the Japanese Archipelago.

The island is richly endowed with a wide variety of natural attractions, including such volcanoes as Aso, Unzen, Kirishima, and Sakurajima. Also beautiful islands, such as Yakushima which is a world heritage site; and luxurious hot springs located in Beppu, Yufuin, Kurokawa, and Ibusuki.

Also, in ancient times the island quickly accepted culture from the continent enabling it to smoothly transition. From the middle ages to modern times it becoming the gateway for the introduction of Western culture into Japan, the island came to possess a multilayered and fascinating culture.

This site introduces the "attractions of Kyushu", an island endowed with a temperate climate, abundance of natural beauty, a long history, and diverse cultures.
