”Okiage” is a lot!

Okiage peculiar to the Chikugo region

”Okiage” is a theme of Ohinasama, Kabuki, and Ukiyoe, the women of each house draw a sketch in the same way as the pushing picture of the Hagoita, copy it on cardboard, put cotton, walnut in the cloth such as the cut of the kimono, bonded, attach the bamboo that was shaved thin in it, it is a brood to decorate the edge of straw and tatami.

Hako-bina

In the Edo period, Yoshii Town of Ukiha City (Chikugo Yoshii) flourished as a post town on the Bungo highway linking Arimahan’s Jyoukamati Kurume and Tenryuu Hita. A weir is built in the Chikugo River, water is drawn, abundant agricultural products are raised, and industries such as the brewing industry, the noodle industry, and the refined wax are stored. The houses of the white wall storehouse which now are the one built from the experience of three great fires by the beginning of the Meiji era including the meaning of the fire prevention measures. Many of them remain on the white Wall Street and Route 210. From the National Cultural Affairs Agency in 1996, the selection of the first issue in Fukuoka Prefecture was selected as the ”Traditional Building group Preservation District”, and we are working to preserve the townscape. The ”Chikugo Yoshii Ohinasama Tour” began in 1993 in the Townscape.

Hayasike/”Hako-bina” and ”Okiage”

The big feature of the Ohinasama of Yoshii town of this Ukiha city is ”Okiage” and ”Hako-bina” which can be said to the so-called common chicks of a post town. ”Okiage” is the one that the woman in each house made a handmade theme of Ohinasama, Kabuki, and Ukiyoe. The sketch is drawn in the same way as the picture of the Hagoita, it is copied to cardboard, the cotton is put, and the cloth of the kimono is pasted and it pastes it. The bamboo which was cut thinly in that was attached, and it was put on the edge of the straw and the tatami at that time and decorated to decorate the circumference of ”Okiage”. Such an Ohinasama is displayed in the old house, the shop, and the public facilities, and can be seen also in the inside and outside of an older building. Surrounded by Ohinasama, take a leisurely walk stroll the streets of Yoshii town in early spring.

Ukiha Sweets Tour

During this period, we have also issued a brochure called ”Ukiha Sweets Tour”. There are a lot of Japanese and pastry shops in Ukiha city. From the limited one during the Hina period, to the staple one, there are lots of popular Japanese and western sweets in the local. This is a plan for finding sweets of your choice, especially popular with women.

The restaurant serves a variety of meals, including a limited-time ”Hina Gozen”, Japanese cuisine, creative dishes, noodles, Mexico and Sichuan cuisine. In addition, a red horse stab called ”Ukiha horse Stab” loved by the citizens is excellent, and you can taste it in the tavern and the Yakitori store, and buy it as a souvenir in the butcher shop.

The Ukiha city of Yoshii Mati is within walking distance of the town centre, with a large exhibition hall and free parking nearby. The local tourist Guide ”Chikugo Yosii Guide” will kindly guide you, so it is nice to see tourists at their own pace. The city is also close to Yoshii Onsen, Chikugo River Onsen, and Harazuru Onsen.
