Kitago-cho, Nichinan City, Miyazaki, has woods over 90 percent of its total area, the most of which consists of Obisugi trees.
Kitago Onsen is surrounded by such rich greeneries. The natural hot spring of the area uses non recycled hot spring of 51 degrees Celsius sourced from 800 meters underground. The hot spring in the area has hydrogen-carbonate quality containing much sodium ion. With a lot of salt, it can warm up your body from inside. The hot springs here are relatively new and their openings date back just about 30 years.
What attracts visitors to this area the most is its nature. As suitable as it is to such a rustic hot spring town in the mountain, it is a wonderful experience to bathe in a hot spring surrounded by expressive nature. It would be especially great in spring, the season when wild cherry trees blossom beautifully. The Inohae Valley, in which Kitago Onsen is located, has about 50 falls, including Godan No Taki (five step fall) and its wet and humid environment is known to have nurtured a woods thickly inhabited by many varieties of moss. There is also a walking path in the woods. It would also be nice to bathe in a hot spring after strolling through the woods filled with the foliage filtered sunlight. The free foot bath located before the valley will be a great resting spot when you enjoy walking in the mountain.

Kitago onsen is the place to be healed not to have fun, I have to say. Not touristy at all which I tend to like. All you should do there is just feel the nature, and I was totally satisfied by that.
