SAGA PREFECTURE SPACE & SCIENCE MUSEUM

The concept of the museum is “Observing Earth and Saga from outer space, and the Earth and outer space from Saga”. At Saga Prefecture Space & Science Museum, people can have fun with scientific “participation and experience.” It is surrounded by the nature of the Takeo Onsen Health Resort Village. The building, which is located by Lake Ikenouchi, was designed in the image of a spaceship awaiting take off from a spaceport. There are 5 exhibit sections in the museum. The “Discovery of the Universe Zone”, which encourages people’s scientific dreams and fantasies about the Universe, “Discovery of the Earth Zone,” which shows how science is both interesting and mysterious, “Discovery of Saga Zone,” which introduces various ecosystems of Saga, “Toy Box of Science,” where people can experience miraculous phenomenon and “Kids’ Square,” where young kids can enjoy science through play. A variety of science learning programs and shows are held for people to learn about the Universe, the earth and Saga, as well as the relation between them. There is a 200 person capacity planetarium on the 3rd floor with the very latest projector. The night sky, with its countless stars has been reproduced there in three-dimensional outer space. The dynamic sun, planets and stars can be observed from the observatory. Many hands-on experience programs are provided in the museum. While visitors leisurely enjoy the facility, the programs offered cultivate a “Scientific Curiosity” in people of all ages and show them how wonderful discovery and creation are.
