An area famous as one of the best hot-spring villages in Japan, it's also packed with old temples and cultural properties made of stone.
Beppu boasts the highest amount of hot spring water in Japan. Yufuin is famous as one of the best hot-spring resorts in Japan. You can enjoy the beauty of Japan with its hot springs, as well as stone Buddhist images in Kunisaki Peninsula, Yabakei, the national treasure Usa Jingu, and Bungotakada, where a town from Showa 30's has been brought back to life.

Usa Jingu Shrine
Usa Jingu Shrine has come to symbolize the syncretization of Shinto with Buddhism. The chief shrine of more than 40,000 Hachiman shrines in Japan, it is designated as a national treasure.
Usuki Sekibutsu (Stone Buddhist Images in Usuki)
Four stone Buddhist images carved into a cliff face in a hill. Fifty-nine out of numerous stone Buddhist images here have been designated as national treasures.
A town recreating the retrospect town in the Showa 30's, it has recently drawn much attention due to Japanese movies and novels.
Yunohira Onsen
A hot-spring area characterized by old flagstones, it's rich in the atmosphere of Japan. You can also enjoy drinking the water from the hot spring.
Yufuin Onsen
A popular hot-spring area with the third-highest amount of hot water in Japan. Inns range from first-class well established ones to casual room and board.
Hamo (Pike Eel) Dishes
A summer feature. Savor hamo caught in the Shiranui Sea or the Ariake Sea, lightly boiled or prepared as tempura.
Kitsuki Sansaku (walking in Kitsukui)
Restored Kitsuki Castle, etc. An old castle town famous for its sloping, flagstone streets, which connect commercial houses and samurai residences.
Jigokumushi Pudding (hell steamed pudding)
A pudding steamed with hot spring fumes containing high sulfur content. It's a popular treat typical of a hot-spring town.
Kokonoe Yume Otsuribashi bridge
This, the longest footpath suspension bridge (390m long/173m high) in Japan, was completed in 2006 as a supernal promenade with panoramic views.
