Harazuru, Hita, Amagase Area

This hot-spring area, not far from Fukuoka City, is home to old streetscapes, rich history and traditional craftsmanship.
You can experience good old Japan in many hot-springs developed around the Chikugo River, the water town Yanagawa, Chikugo Yoshii (known for white-walled storehouses) and Hita Mameda, where traditional structures built 400 years ago still remain, etc. It's a place where traditional craftsmanship is everywhere to see.

Flower Park Amagase
This small hill in the Itsuma Highlands is filled with approximately 20 varieties of flowers, where you can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views such as the distant Aso somma.
Tenryo Hita Doll Festival
In the old families of Hita City there remain many hina dolls bought on business trips in Kyoto, which are opened to the public in February and March.
Chikugogawa Onsen
A simple radium spring that is rare in Japan. You can enjoy elegant river activities, including cormorant fishing aboard a boat in season.
Harazuru Onsen
This is the hot spring with the highest amount of hot water. The water is a bit thick, and the skin becomes smooth, making it popular as a spring for beauties.
Amagase Onsen
A hot spring area with a long history of about 1,300 years scattered along the Kusu River in the upstream areas of the Chikugo River. Effective for rheumatism, etc.
Hita Onsen
A hot spring along the Mikuma River that runs through the center of Hita City. You can enjoy a party on a houseboat floating on the Mikuma River from around May to October.
Yabakei Bridge
This is designated by the prefecture as an important cultural property, and its construction was completed in 1923. The stony arch bridge for sightseeing is the longest in Japan (116 meters).
Unagi seiro-mushi (steamed eel)
A bowl of rice dressed with salty-sweet sauce and boiled eel on top, it's fluffy and delicious.
Streetscapes of White Walls in Chikugo Yoshii
There still remain traces of the days Chikugo Yoshii flourished as a post town. There are a series of white walled storehouses. It's fun to tour the art galleries.
